About this deal

The awful Wood/Lane composition "On The Beach" follows and when one considers that within months they would deliver the magnificent "A Nod's As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse" album, what possessed them to record this ? Richmond sounds like an Americana standard but is another Lane original, the kind of song Keith Richards wishes he wrote, filled with more great guitar work and an appealing, unhurried optimism to the music despite the ambiguity of the lyrics. Hoping to capitalise on the Small Faces' earlier success, record company executives wanted the band to keep their old name; however, the band objected, arguing the personnel changes resulted in a group very different from the Small Faces. The Faces’ second is a frustrating affair, beginning like it’s going to improve on the debut before a half-baked second act brings it crashing down into forgettable mediocrity. In fact, one might readily argue that it’s the polar opposite of one, as it’s considered by many of the band’s fans to be the single best studio album ever produced by the Faces.

Ronnie Lane made his final concert appearance in 1992 at a Ronnie Wood show with Ian McLagan on keyboards; Lane died in 1997. Apart from that the bar there was open 24 hours a day so anytime anything went wrong it was, ‘Let’s go down and have a drink while they’re mending it,’ and that went on for months. His sound in the years since joining the Stones has, quite naturally, got embedded with his soul-mate Keith Richards but, if you listen to his early recordings, you can hear the melody in his musical runs, whether it be on guitar, bass guitar, or pedal steel guitar.

The intro of "Had Me A Real Good Time" sounds like Wood's homage to The Stones' "Honky Tonk Women" before Stewart sings his typical poor boy out with his mates getting into a posh party as a gatecrasher rather than a bona fide guest. Opening up with some acoustic slide guitar from Wood, it took awhile for 'On the Beach' to show it's true colors, but by the time Lane's whiny voice kicked in it was clear this was a nifty alt-folk number that Lane would begin to pursue in earnest when he went solo.

The band continued to tour throughout 1974 and 1975, releasing a live album, Coast to Coast: Overture and Beginners, in 1974 that was jointly credited to Rod Stewart/Faces. It doesn’t take a genius to lay the blame for this filler at the feet of Stewart saving his best for his acclaimed solo album Every Picture Tells A Story (the title track of which is a pinched Faces song as is I’m Losing You) which he was working on at the time. At one time I was feeling like that, well, being stuck away was going to be my position for the rest of my life. The band's appeal, in McLagan's eyes, was a natural outgrowth of their unique chemistry — topped off by Stewart, who'd overcome the stage fright that gripped him early in his career to become "a vamp .Notes of dates for the live tracks use the US dating system - songs were performed and recorded on 10 November 1970. Faces and Small Faces were jointly inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, Stewart was scheduled to perform with the rest of the band, but was unable to do so at the last minute due to illness; he was replaced by Hucknall. On 24 September 2009, it was announced that the Faces, minus Rod Stewart, would reunite for a one-off charity show for the Performing Rights Society's Music Members' Benevolent Fund, at the Royal Albert Hall in London. It should also be borne in mind that this was the first of two albums recorded by the band in 1971 - "A Nod's As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse" following relatively soon afterwards. On 28 August 2015, Long Player was reissued in a remastered and expanded form, including two previously unreleased outtakes, "Whole Lotta Woman" and "Sham-Mozzal" (the latter actually being an early instrumental prototype of "Had Me a Real Good Time").

The Rolling Stones" actually drafted Ron Wood into their band as the "Faces" dissolved when Rod left for his solo career. Sanne Graulund’s rendition of “Dancing On My Own,” featuring Jan Harbeck, serves as the first single from her upcoming album, “Context. Similar names aside, the Faces were their own outfit, and their work together brought the individual members a greater measure of long-deserved exposure. Stewart was scheduled to perform with the rest of the band, but was unable to do so at the last minute due to illness; he was replaced by Hucknall.

That was particularly true on side two where the track listing included almost nine minutes dedicated to a pedestrian blues number ('I Feel Good') and a throwaway country-blues instrumental ('Jerusalem'). M (Mint): The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. There was also a Small Faces reunion in the late 1970s (without Ronnie Lane) that resulted in two albums; and in 1981 Ronnie Lane and Steve Marriott collaborated on the album The Legendary Majik Mijits. It's just your average early '70s denim roots rock being played by a fairly standard British-blooze band.
